Net neutrality is the principal, and FCC regulation, that stops Internet service providers from blocking or slowing down certain information on the Internet. Net neutrality means all information is treated the same. Recently the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia struck down this regulation. This means that Internet service providers can charge the consumer more money for access to certain sites, choose which sites receive faster or slower download speed, or all-together block any site they wish. Much of the beauty of the Internet is that it is a free-flowing source of information, an open platform that encourages new ideas and connectivity. Allowing profit-motivated companies to control what we see will be the end of the Internet as we know it. Plus, they could very well slow down Netflix.
