The Black Hills State University music department held their fall choral concert on Oct. 18 at the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.

The choral concert featured the Chamber Singers, Women’s Ensemble, the

Northern Hills Chamber Chorale and Concert Choir.

BHSU elementary education major Lindsey Dehaai said, “I enjoy going to the choral concerts because I am able to listen to the beautiful music performed by fellow classmates and friends.”

Miranda Cornay, a psychology major and a member of the Women’s Ensemble performance at BHSU said it is important for students to attend concerts, because the music department needs the support just like the sports programs do.

Dr. Jonathan Nero, the Associate Professor of music and choir director, said that it means a great deal to the musicians when students, faculty, and staff members attend the performances.

“Having a supportive audience really helps the singers understand the value of the work that they are doing,” said Nero.

Currently the music department has several students who are preparing for senior recitals, and all of the bands and choirs are preparing for their upcoming holiday concerts.

The BHSU Holiday Concert will take place Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m. Both performances will take place in the Clare and Josef Meier recital hall.
