BHSU Artists Featured in Graphic Novel Exhibition
The Matthews Opera House in Spearfish hosted a reception for their Graphic Novel Art Show Feb 5. The exhibition featured work from five artists around the community including Black Hills State University professors and students. BHSU senior Chanel Wiggan had five pieces featured in the gallery.
Wiggan described her collection as soft. She said she was inspired by strangers and couples but that she makes the people in her drawings look androgynous so viewers can make their own assumptions about the character’s relationships.
The art in the exhibition varied in theme and style with mediums from pencil to acrylic paint.
“It’s a really vast genre and it’s a very interesting genre, so we wanted to bring something in that we’d never done before,” said Gallery and Events Manager and event organizer Samantha Thompson. Thompson said she hopes the art brings a new crowd of people to the Matthews Opera House.
The exhibition will be on display through Feb. 26 and is free to the public.
